Bridal Prep at the Grand
This bride chose to stay at the Grand the night before her wedding at The Hospitium wedding venue in York. Being less than 500 meters away, the Grand was a perfect choice for bridal preparations before the 8 minute walk to her wedding.
Her suite was in the new part of the hotel – the large windows and neutral décor made for a lovely elegant backdrop for her getting ready photos.
Once she was ready, we stopped for some bridal portraits on the stunning Grand staircase – the light coming in through the windows fell beautifully on her dress.
Groom prep at the grand
This groom and his best man and ushers all get ready at the Grand before walking over to the Milner Hotel for the wedding. It was the perfect place to get ready – they had some pre wedding drinks at the bar while the groom added some final touches to his speech, and then we took some groomsmen portraits near the stairs and on the city walls outside the hotel.
Intimate elopements
I frequently photograph elopements and small intimate weddings at York Registry Office. The Grand is a very popular choice for couples who want somewhere close and luxurious to stay.
This couple stayed in a suite in the original part of the hotel.
Drink receptions at the White Rose Lounge
The White Rose Lounge is a bar and dining lounge with seating capacity for 70 guests. It is on the ground floor (at the end of the corridor when you turn left from the main reception). There are views of the city walls. This makes the perfect place for guests to mingle whilst enjoying reception drinks and canapes.
The White Rose Lounge also works as a venue for drinks reception and afternoon tea after a ceremony at York Registry Office.
The Chairman’s Suite for an intimate wedding
This wood panelled room on the first floor has views over the city walls. As a wedding photographer, the wood clad pillars are my favourite feature of this room. I have photographed intimate ceremonies and wedding breakfasts in this room which has a capacity of 30 guests.
The Chairman’s Suite at the Grand is one of the places I recommend to couples who are looking for a reception venue in York after a wedding ceremony at York Registry Office.
The Grand Ballroom – Large wedding venue in York
The Grand ballroom is the largest event space at the Grand with a capacity of 120 guests and views over the city walls and York Minster. It is a perfect place for a reception after a church wedding, or as a venue for your whole day including the ceremony.
The Chairman’s Suite connects to the Grand Ballroom and is often used as a quieter space or bar area for large weddings taking place in the Ballroom.
With wood panelling and an original parquet floor, this space feels majestic and grand.
Christmas at the Grand
The Grand in York is famous for their Christmas decorations. If you want your wedding to have that magical Christmas feel, I honestly don’t think there is anywhere more magical than the Grand in York at Christmas.
There are Christmas trees everywhere, and the Edwardian staircase is lined with lights and decorations. This year there were penguins and a huge gingerbread house.
