Happy Otter Photography
Yup – I know your sort… I am it too.
I’ve been photographing weddings in County Durham for outdoorsy introverts for over 10 years now, and I love it!
From woodland weddings, intimate nuptials on the beach, to festival weddings on a farm – I’m game!
I started my journey into photography to prove that there were otters living on the river behind my house. It was not easy!
After years of perseverance, I finally captured a glimpse of an otter fishing on the river bank.
It played happily, blissfully unaware of my presence.
They are shy and elusive, but naturally playful creatures if they don’t realise they are being watched.
Fast forward (you can read more about my journey through life on my about page) ten years, and after becoming a County Durham wedding photographer, it became more and more evident that people are a lot like otters.
They can smile and laugh and have a great time… but not so much if they feel under pressure to pose for a photo.
This is how Happy Otter Photography was born. I started to target my style of natural and sensitive photography to people who didn’t enjoy having their photos taken.
And the results were wonderful!
Even otters can have beautiful wedding photos. View my full wedding photography portfolio.
“She worked tirelessly all day, she was swift and decisive and like an absolute ninja, she was in different parts of the wedding taking snaps that I didn’t even realise at the time. Emma also managed a barrage of changes that were thrown in at the last minute with absolute professionalism which is testament to her character. Her photos are totally beautiful and we have memories captured that we will treasure forever”

“everything was perfect, even down to the USB with the cute otter logo! I can’t sing Emma’s praises high enough, she was exactly what we needed in a photographer. I love the relaxed unposed photos which tell a perfect story of our day!”
Hexham Abbey Wedding
“we are absolutely over the moon! She has perfectly captured so many special moments and I honestly felt like I was reliving the day as we went through them all!
So many of our guests had commented on how refreshing it was for a photographer to blend in and capture all the little moments, rather than jumping in front of guests and dictating the day.”

The best way to assess a wedding photographer’s work, is to have a look at photos they’ve taken at your wedding venue.
So, here is a summary of some of the top County Durham (including Crook Hall and Durham Castle) wedding venues with photos, by me.
